Love Story Couple in Romantic Bliss Illustration - Mid Century
-
Description
A handsome man and a beautiful woman are depicted in a rapturous pose. Their bodies are intertwined with each other and with the surrounding floral elements. This masterfully rendered and designed illustration seems effortlessly created. Its very loose quick style disguises years of formal academic training, which is at the very root of Joe Bowler's great talent.
Each pictorial element strikes a perfect conversation with each other in perfect harmony. There is not a line or shape out of place. Bowler creates a simultaneously abstract work and representation. It's a seminal work that sums up the greatness of post-war American illustration. Most likely done for Cosmopolitan Magazine or the Ladies' Home Journal.
20x20 1/2-inch board. Signed "Bowler" in lower left image. Tipped to window matte and framed to 24 1/2x23 inches. Work is framed under Plexi. The work was an assignment piece most likely done for a major newsstand magazine. In person, it's jaw-droppingly beautiful. -
