Description
Original oil on canvas painting of a Scottish village in winter. Signed lower right. The “R.O.I. after the artist’s name is the abbreviation for the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. If you look closely there a several figures in the painting. Condition of the painting is very good. There are several small (the size of a pea) areas of inpaint.
Circa 1980. The painting is housed in a contemporary silver leaf frame that measures
20.75 by 28.75. Provenance: A Sarasota, Florida collector.
John McCutcheon 1910-1995
Painter and draughtsman in pen and ink, born in Dalmellington, Ayrshirein 1910 settling in Ayr, where he was a member of the Sketch Club. After Ayr Academy he studied at Glasgow School of Art, 1929–33. He became a member of ROI in 1970, also exhibiting at RSA, Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts and at Paris Salon, where he gained an Hon. Mention. He died in 1995. -
