"Anthracite" by John Moyers, Enamel on Wood Painting, Circa 1960
-
Description
This stunning painting was realized by the celebrated abstract expressionist artist John Moyers, circa 1960. It features a orange garnet orbital form in the center ringed with turquoise surrounded by a sea of mottled of white, resembling sea foam. This expressionistic tableau appears against a background of anthracite black- a color which apparently lends the piece its title. The form of this painting is a an oblong rectangle with rounded corners, imbuing it with a sculptural sensibility. With its soothing palate and idiosyncratic, organic forms, this piece would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Mid Century Modern to contemporary. It retains its original gallery label reading "Maxwell Gallery" on verso and is in excellent condition.
