Description
Luigi Billi (1958-2016)
"Elegant, beautiful, amusing, ironic and tender at the same time; but pungent, painful, the artist probably hid through his love notes of enlarged, crumpled and plasticised Perugini kisses a desire for childish play that he perhaps felt was interrupted but from which he could not detach himself" by Natalia Gozzano
The artist has realised numerous solo and group exhibitions in Italy and America, working mainly with the medium of photography, to which she renders new, unexpected and suggestive forms of expression. Worthy of mention are her participations in the 12th National Quadrennial in Rome at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in 1996, the 8th International Biennial of Photography at the Palazzo Brincherasio (Turin, 1999), the 8th Cairo Biennial of Contemporary Art (2001), as well as the Nescafè Brunch & Art Prize, won at the Milan Triennial in 2002. Some of the prestigious spaces and galleries Billi has collaborated with are the Galleria dei Serpenti, Rome; the Ex Mattatoio del Testaccio, 1997
La Frau Gallery, New York; the Apulian Misia Bari, Ninni Esposito 2001, Spazio 6 Monopoli 2006, Sala Murat VERDE 2008
Gala Museum Barcelona 2002
Museo del Vittoriano, Rome
Intellectuals from different backgrounds have written about his work, from Valerio Magrelli to Eve Ensler, from Erri Deluca to Barbara Alberti -
