Description
Pair of Reverse Mirror Paintings by William Edgar Fater (M.E. Fager), 1950
A rare and radiant pair of mid-century reverse mirror paintings by Chicago-born artist William Edgar Fater, also known as M.E. Fager, exemplifying the intricate artistry and bold elegance of American decorative design, circa 1950.
Each rectangular mirrored panel is exquisitely hand-painted in striking black and deep crimson, depicting lush floral bouquets in full, expressive bloom. Voluptuous petals and berries emerge from a cascade of broad-leafed foliage, their stems elegantly gathered with an undulating ribbon—rendered in reverse glass technique and richly overlaid with metal leaf, creating an ethereal, gilded depth that glows from within the reflective surface.
The compositions are housed in finely sculpted silver-painted bolection wood frames, their deep, sweeping curves rising to a slender, graceful lip—frames that echo the paintings’ romantic drama and enhance their timeless sophistication.
Signed by the artist and in exceptional vintage condition, these pieces transcend mere decoration; they are windows into a lavish, mid-century reverie, imbued with character, contrast, and undeniable presence.
Offered by MWM DESIGN INTERIORS, curators of exceptional furnishings, art, and decorative objects for the most discerning clientele worldwide. -
