“Fifth Avenue Winter”

Beautiful oil on masonite painting of Fifth Avenue in New York City in winter by the Irish born artist, Philip Corley. Figures fighting against the a windy snowstorm. Signed by the artist with artist monogram and titled verso. Circa 1990. Condition of the painting is excellent. Custom silver leaf gallery frame in good condition. Overall framed measurements are 28.25 by 24.25 inches. Provenance: A Delray, Florida collector.

Philip A. Corley Was Born April 11, 1944 in Dublin, Ireland . He Studied at the College of Art 1959 to1964. Tutured with little supervision,
by Sean Keating, Maurice McGonical and John Kelly, Corley at 15 years old was the youngest ever to exhibit in the Royal Hibernian Academy, he qualified as a teacher the following year. In Breaking in 1961 and 1962, Corley won a private scholarship and entered the Academy de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris, France, where he was tutored by Yves brayer. He then returned to Dublin to finish his studies ,where he continued exhibiting annually at the Royal Hibernian Academy , as well as local galleries. He was a founder member of 65 [a collection of Dublin artists] and project’g [ an independent artist co-op] both of which are still flourishing.

Corley has lived in London/ France/ Spain/ Cannery Islands/ Morocco/ Amsterdam, traveling and painting throughout Europe before arriving to the United States/ New York, where he painted many acclaimed murals.

Corley’s work is found in important museums collections worldwide, Presently, he mainly lives in Florida, between visits to the Bahamas/ Mexico/ South America and the Far East.
