Pierfrancesco Cittadini was a painter and engraver, born in Milan in 1616 and died in 1681, in Bologna. He was a student of Raffaello Guido; Cittadini was shown to be most worthy of his teacher in his execution of the paintings for the altars of Bologna’s churches. Cittadini then abandoned these large compositions, as did many of his fellow painters of the time, to concentrate on smaller, more personal subjects including flowers, fruit, animals, birds, and small landscapes. His works are in the museums of Bologna, Dresden, Dublin, Florence, Leningrad, Nottingham, and Parma. -
