A lovely diptyque paintings by Australian Aboriginal artist Raelene Kerinauia (1962- ). Born in 1962 (Tiwi People), Wurrumiyanga, Mantiyupwi Country, Bathurst Island, Northern Territory, Raelene Kerinauia Lampuwatu lives and works Milikapiti, Melville Island, Northern Territory. Her distinctive artworks are contemporary interpretations of designs that connect her family to Tiwi cosmology, Country and cultural practices. She uses a kayimwagakimi – a traditional Tiwi wooden painting comb – to create her distinct paintings on paper, canvas and bark, and is also a skilled printmaker, producing intricate etchings and lithographs in her signature geometric designs (Artist's biography courtesy of Musuem of Contemprary Art Australia, Sydney, where the artist's work is held in permanent collection).
The diptyques were painted in 2005 and presented in a white frame. Stamped on the back of the canvas by the Jilamara Art Center now covered by the backing paper. It comes with COA from the Jilamara Art Center. -
