Description
This is a signed, first edition color photolithograph by Cecil Aldin of the English golf course Sunningdale. The photolithograph depicts golfers on Sunnigdale's fourth green. Sunningdale Golf Club, in Berkshire, England, was founded in 1900 and has two eighteen hole golf courses: the Old Course, designed by Willie Park Jr., and the New Course, designed by Harry Colt, which opened in 1923. This print was printed and published in 1922 by Eyre & Spottiswoode, Ltd, in London. Aldrin signed the print in pencil in the bottom left margin.
Cecil Aldin (1870 - 1935) was a prolific painter. Not only did he paint golfing scenes, he also painted his dogs and scenes of hunting and racing. Aldin was the Master of the South Berkshire Hunt and was elected a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1898. Aldin painted six British golf courses during his career: Sunningdale, North Berwick, Westward Ho!, Royal St. George's, Walton Heath, and St. Andrews.
