Presented is a first edition printing of Wrath in Burma: The Uncensored Story of General Stilwell and International Maneuvers in the Far East by Fred Eldridge. The book was published by Doubleday & Company in 1946. It is presented here in the publisher’s original green dust jacket and green cloth boards with gilt tooling to the spine. It is accompanied by a new archival green cloth slipcase, with an original patch recessed into the front of the slipcase.

Wrath in Burma offers a riveting account of General Stilwell's campaigns and Allied operations in the China-Burma-India theater during World War II. A tenacious and unrelenting general, Stilwell was assigned to an almost impossible mission, staffed with untrained and ill-equipped men and unreliable and unmotivated allies in China and England. “Stilwell's mission was to exert all possible pressure to make the Chinese and British fight, and here is the story of that mission with all its treachery, courage and heartbreak” (Kirkus, 1946).

Published soon after the conflict, this book captures the political complexities of Stilwell’s campaigns. Having witnessed many of these events firsthand, journalist and war correspondent Fred Eldridge provides sound observations and frank commentary about the challenges of CBI warfare, supply logistics, and coalition command. Upon its publication, the book was reviewed as “Important in its expose, revealing” by Kirkus. In Free World, John Goette wrote, “...the author paints Stilwell as the most conscientiously honest, tough and hard-working, and perhaps the most personally courageous American officer on any front in World War II. You do not know your American history well until you have read every word of Wrath in Burma.”

“Wrath in Burma at least reminds us that World War II was really a global war, and that the conflict in Asia was simultaneous with the war against the Axis in Europe. In the absence of a book giving us the " inside story " of General MacArthur's and Admiral Nimitz' commands, Eldridge is a good reminder of military issues in the Far East.” (John D. Millet, Political Science Quarterly, 1946).
