Male Study Watercolor Gouache Painting by Leopoldo Romañach

Offered for sale is a watercolor or sepia toned gouache by the renowned Cuban artist Leopoldo Romañach (1862-1951). The painting is of an art study and has been displayed in a modern giltwood frame under glass. It is on paper and is signed in the lower right. Romañach was a significant figure in Cuban art, known for his paintings, and his works have been featured in numerous auctions and exhibits globally. This is a work from his time studying in New York. Romañach did not permanently move to the US, but he lived in New York City for several years around 1895–1900, studying and painting before returning to Cuba to teach. He was a renowned painter, winning awards in US exhibitions and dying in Havana.
