Description
1995 Mark McCloud Blotter Art "Felix The Cat". Mark McCloud Blotter Art on paper, sheet size 7.5 x 7.5 inches, perforated 30 x 30 squares total 900 doses. This is an original sheet from the 1995 exhibition of Mark McCould. In very good condition, framed under glass as pictured (size 11.5 x 11.5 inches). This is a hard to find blotter art of Mark McCloud. Purchased by Albert Joseph Gallery in 1995 at the exhibition of Mark McCloud held at The Artrock Gallery, San Francisco CA, 1995. The exhibition was titled "Timothy Leary In Wonderland" and ran from August 10, 1995 through to the end of October 1995. The show featured Mark McCloud's extensive collection of chemically inactive, or "undipped," blotter art. This was a landmark event, considered to be the first gallery exhibition of blotter art as a legitimate art form. This piece was acquired directly from the artist Mark McCloud during his 1995 Exhibit.
In very good condition framed under glass as pictured.
This Blotter Art is a significant piece of American Folk Art – “Psychedelic Art” of the “Blotter Art Period” (1970s-1990's). Early blotter art was made for the practical purpose of discreetly distributing and branding LSD doses. Folk art reflects the life and culture of a specific community. Blotter art is deeply rooted in the 1960s/70s counter-culture, drawing on psychedelic aesthetics, underground comix, and symbols important to that community.
Includes Certificate of Authenticity
Mark McCloud is a prominent figure known for his extensive collection and creation of LSD blotter art. He founded the "Institute of Illegal Images" to archive and display these pieces as a form of psychedelic art history. His specific design is part of a vast archive that documents the visual history of psychedelic culture. McCloud's work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, highlighting the artistic and cultural significance of this unique art form. -
