Description
"Buffalo Shaped Sound" A kinetic Sonambient sculpture by Val Bertoia composed of 122 Beryllium rods silvered to solid brass mounted on wood stand. The 122 purple tipped beryllium rods are arranged in the shape of a buffalo creating an outline that is distinctly visible. Unique and somewhat rare for a Bertoia Sonambeint sculpture, is the animal representation and the visual of the animal in motion created through direct interaction with the sculpture. Having a wonderful sound when touched, stroked, and played. The sculpture is mounted to a pine stand made by Val which positions the sculpture on a 45 degree angle to encourage and allow the viewer to interact with the art. By clasping your hands around the beryllium rods, bringing the roods all together and then releasing the rods. You allow the sculpture to reveal the art in motion creating its wonderful Somambient sound. Looking down at the beryllium rods in motion the outline of a buffalo running appears more defined as the purple tipped rods slow their movement. A wonderful interactive art sculpture by Val Bertoia son of Harry Bertoia. Val worked with his father from 1970 - 1978 until Harry Bertoia's death. Val Bertoia's reputation and work are closely tied to his father's legacy. After Harry's death Val took over Bertoia Studio continuing to create sound sculptures in the Bertoia tradition. These sculptures are uniquely numbered and have been acquired by important collections including museums.
2009 Singed, includes the artist certificate of authenticity. The pine wood stand was made by "Val" the artist specific for this sculpture. -
