Description
Rare Paavo Tynell Chandelier Model 9037. Exquisite commissioned Paavo Tynell Chandelier Concerto with flowing brass burst flowers and a special canopy.
In very good original condition. Size 44D x 42H. Paavo Tynell Chandelier Model 9037 Concerto family of chandeliers commissioned with 8 stems with leaves, spiral rosettes, & a finned brass canopy. Large scale architectural presence 44D x 42H inches. Base dish 24D inches. Brass canopy 14D inches. 44D measured from the exterior edge to exterior edge of glass shades. Acquired directly from the original owner estate in 2020.
This chandelier is a large scale of the Concerto Family of Chandeliers Designed by Paavo Tynell produced by OY. TAITO AB 1950.
Undisputable authentication and Provance. Complete marking TT OY.TAITO AB, 9037 made in Finland. This specific mark represents peak years for Paavo Tynell’s works, 1947-1952. This model 9037 was only available between 1948 – 1952. Represented on page 5 of the Finland House 1948 Catalog, documenting Finland House export program, American market production Finland House catalog #10127.
This Chandelier is historically linked to the period Paavo Tynell entered the elite U.S. design market and represents the last years while still producing from his facility in Finland, Oy Taito. In 1953, Idman Oy acquired a majority stake in Taito Oy. This sale coincided with Tynell's retirement from his position as managing director and chief. Model 9037 was not brought into the Idman Oy production merger in 1953 and does not appear in any of Idman Oy catalogs making this model very limited.
Also notable due to the scale and size model 9037 sold as commissioned pieces adding significance to the few examples, variations and rarity.
Item Details: Featuring complex brass decorative work consisting of strong sculptural armatures with lyrical floral organic brass detailing.
8 lights, 8 arms with scalloped edged cups encasing the sockets, 8 branches - stems with leaves and spiral rosettes (noted in the Finland House catalog shows 4 branches), this chandelier houses 8 stems commissioned, and a large blossom coil center.
Having an original untouched finish (in very good original condition), featuring a specific brass canopy designed specifically for this chandelier’s original commission.
8 handblown glass shades of which one shade appears slightly thicker to be of a latter period, and one other shade has a small historical repair to the base opening. All eight shades are of the same size, shape, and visually harmonious, these elements do not disrupt the macro-level presentation or the primary structural value of the armature. -
