Description
Rare 1960s Italian Murano Glass Pendant Lamp by AV Mazzega. Faceted Ice Blue Vetro Colorato & Solid Brass. Breathtaking, 1960s/1970s masterwork of Italian lighting produced by the elite glasshouse AV Mazzega in Murano, Italy. This Space Age architectural geometric pendant is a rare, limited-production design that beautifully mimics chiseled crystal while preserving the ethereal, color-shifting glow unique to Murano art glass. Crafted using an advanced a lume mold-blowing technique, the shade is made of genuine vetro colorato (colored mass glass) of Hazy light sky blue. Custom mineral oxides were mixed directly into the molten vat rather than painted or frosted on the outside. Because of the multi-textured mold—featuring an octagonal shape, diamond bands, and fluid waves—the glass naturally stretches thinner on the flat outer panels and pools thicker in the recessed ridges. This creates a mesmerizing optical effect, producing deep concentrations of hazy sky blue and brilliant translucent highlights when lit, also illuminating patterns on the ceiling. The glass globe is beautifully crowned by its original, solid brass structural collar mount, lip, and suspension stem, making it a dramatic focal point for a mid-century modern, postmodern, or contemporary interior.
