Description
Legendary illustrator Edmund Dulac recreates a scene from the Book of Proverbs in which a merchant offers a beautiful young maiden a priceless necklace made of rubies. Witnessing the scene is another beautiful maiden who is most likely a sister. " Unlike gemstones that hold merely material or aesthetic value, the wisdom to make good decisions brings long-term peace, honor, and a fulfilling life." The concept here is to value understanding, values, and ethics over shiny material things. Dulac conceived, designed, and painted the scene for an unpublished cover of American Weekly Magazine. Signed lower left.
Dulac (Edmund) Wisdom is better than rubies, an original design for the planned, but unpublished series of American Weekly covers, 'The Book of Proverbs', framed under glass to 21.75 x 19.75
