Jacob Marrel was a painter of flowers. He was a student of Flegel in Frankfurt and of J. D. de Heem. Marrel married Catherine Eliets in 1641 in Utrecht. She died in 1649. He then married Johanna Sibylla, the widow of the engraver, M. Merian.
In 1664 Marrrel returned to Utrecht with his pupil Abraham Migon and became an art dealer. He also had his daughter-in-law, Maria Sibylla Merian as his pupil. She later became a renowned artist.
Marrel’s work is at the Royal Museum in Amsterdam, as well as the museums of Cassel, Darmstadt, Prague, Siena, the historical Society in New York, and the historic museum in Frankfurt. -
