Large French Neoclassical style gilt bronze mounted bed
French, late 19th Century
Height 143cm, width 147cm, depth 225cm

This impressive bed is crafted in the Neoclassical style from wood, gilt bronze, and red velvet. The bed features a large, shaped headboard, which is centred with a panel of red floral velvet, with the wooden structure of the headboard mounted with a host of gilt bronze mounts including rosettes and pomegranate finials. The footboard of the bed is similarly wrought and adorned, with the columnar sides set with gilt bronze floral garlands and the wooden surfaces veneered in a manner that reveals the grain of the wood. The sideboards of the bed are finished with red velvet. The bed is stamped for Grohé Frères.
