Description
CHERRY TREE, is a new cast concrete cabinet with plant relief imprints. The cherry plants were harvested in the spring 2023 and conserved for eternity on the doors of the cabinet.
CHERRY TREE cabinet is a captivating piece of art that combines functionality and aesthetics seamlessly. Crafted from solid concrete, this cabinet showcases the skillful craftsmanship and artistry involved in its creation. The texture and smooth finish of the concrete with the relief of the plants create a unique and tactile experience for the user. The cherry tree blossoms imprinted on the cabinet add a touch of natural elegance to the overall design. Its sleek and minimalist silhouette enhances the contemporary feel of this statement piece, making it an exquisite addition to any modern interior. With its blend of strength, beauty, and practicality, the Cherry Tree cabinet effortlessly elevates the concept of a traditional storage solution into an awe-inspiring work of art.
The cupboards of Stefan Buxbaum - a casting and concrete expert - are technical feats: the corpus is cast in one piece, in a lightweight technique. For his emblematic plant models, the artist applies his chosen specimens and petrifies those paragons of beauty as permanent reliefs onto the surfaces.
The plants appear as being petrified. We are also reminded of the art deco era or Jugendstil, however, in new flesh, projected into the present and the future through the use of this contemporary material as concrete.
The beauty of nature becomes even more manifest, the finesse of the plants is more obvious, being cast into a timeless state for eternity.
The artist’s preferred material is concrete which qualities and limits he challenges. His body of work is characterized by a dialogue between seemingly disparate elements: the chasteness and timeless hardness of concrete meet the fragile vivacity and tenderness of plant specimens. There is a technical sophistication inherent in his work, which has its own melody and adds a new lightness and aesthetic to the gravity of the material.
