Description
This is a Paul T. Frankl original parchment color lacquered cork and mahogany desk with and brass trim. It was designed by Paul T. Frankl and manufactured by the Johnson Co., circa 1949 This lacquered cork desk has a recessed bookshelf in the center front. The wood trim is hand polished mahogany lacquer and the drawer hardware has brass detailing creating a bold contrast. It is a distinctive design by the highly innovative American designer, Paul T. Frankl. Paul T. Frankl opened Frankl Galleries on 48th Street in NYC in the 1920’s. He immediately established himself as one of the foremost modern designers in the US with his skyscraper designs. He then came to California in 1934 where he changed his style to express the more horizontal and elegant Hollywood style of his celebrity clients. Still ahead and in the forefront of design, in the late 1940’s and into the1950’s he created strikingly original cork and mahogany line for the Johnson Co.
