Description
Origin: Delft, the Netherlands
Date: 1700 - 1720
Two Dutch Delft vases converted into table lamps. A wonderful large pail, the vases themself are 16.2 inches heigh, and wonderfully decorated with sprays of flowers and birds. By this design we can attribute these vases to the workshop of the Kam family and objects dating from this period are associated with the ''De Drie Vergulde Astonne'' workshop. The Kam family developed a style of their own during this period. Much of their work is completely covered with painted sprays of flowers and birds in all sorts of attitudes. As a rule, the effect of the decoration is more satisfactory on a large surface, as in this case on these two vases, than on a smaller object. This style of painting was used in Delft in the beginning of the 18th century. Executed by painters with a fine brush, and consequently to produce, vases, jars, tankards, dishes, and plates. Needless to say, very few of these pieces have survived the ages. -
