Description
This rare ceiling lamp, designed by Anders Pehrson and produced by Ateljé Lyktan in Åhus, Sweden, during the 1960s, is a prime example of Scandinavian modern lighting design. The lamp features a large domed shade made of vibrant yellow acrylic, a bold material choice that creates a striking visual impact. The acrylic shade is suspended by a brass framework, which not only provides structural support but also creates an elegant contrast with the smooth plastic surface. The brass elements contribute to the lamp’s refined and functional aesthetic, characteristic of mid-century Scandinavian design.
The inner white diffuser is an integral feature of the lamp, softening the light and creating an even, ambient illumination. This diffusion of light is typical of Pehrson’s functionalist approach, where the design is not only visually appealing but also highly practical, ensuring that the lamp serves its purpose effectively while enhancing the atmosphere of the room.
Anders Pehrson was a significant figure in Swedish lighting design during the mid-century period. Known for his ability to merge industrial production with aesthetic refinement, Pehrson became head of Ateljé Lyktan in 1964. Under his leadership, the company expanded its international presence and produced a range of lighting solutions that combined modern materials with innovative forms. Pehrson’s work was defined by a strong visual identity, with an emphasis on both practical function and elegance, making his designs widely recognizable and enduringly popular.
The lamp remains in good condition, with its vibrant yellow acrylic shade retaining its bright color. The dimensions of the lamp are as follows: a diameter of 50 cm (19.7 inches) and a height of 83 cm (32.7 inches). These proportions make it a striking fixture, perfect for larger spaces where it can serve as both a functional light source and a statement piece in the interior.
