Description
A sculptural wrought iron table lamp, most probably produced by Taidetakomo Antti Hakkarainen, Finland, in the 1920-30s. Hand-forged in iron, the lamp displays the workshop's characteristic craftsmanship, where decorative details emerge naturally from the material rather than being applied as ornament. Twisted iron arms, scrollwork feet, and a floral finial combine to create a piece that feels equally rooted in Finnish craftsmanship traditions and the romantic ideals of the Arts & Crafts movement.
The lamp is fitted with four E14 light sources concealed beneath a pleated shade. The shade has been newly upholstered over the original frame, preserving the proportions and character of the design while providing a fresh and elegant appearance. When illuminated, the light filters softly through the pleated fabric, creating a warm and atmospheric glow that contrasts beautifully with the dark forged iron structure. The shade is also adjustable in height.
The lamp has undergone a careful restoration. The iron body and its original patina have been preserved, while the electrical system has been completely rewired for modern use. The candle-style socket covers have been replaced with new examples, and a discreet cover for the electrical connections beneath the base has been custom-made using modern manufacturing methods to improve functionality and safety while remaining visually unobtrusive.
With its handcrafted character and expressive silhouette, the lamp works equally well in traditional, rustic, Swedish Grace, Arts & Crafts, and eclectic interiors. Whether placed on a console, sideboard, library table, or large desk, it serves as both a functional light source and a decorative object.
Taidetakomo Antti Hakkarainen was among Finland's most respected artistic metal workshops during the first half of the twentieth century. The workshop became known for its hand-forged lighting fixtures, decorative metalwork, and commissioned interiors, producing pieces that combined traditional blacksmithing techniques with the emerging artistic movements of the period. -
