Description
The manufacturer of this lamp - ASEA - has a rich heritage rooted in lighting innovation, pushing boundaries and redefining norms, playing a pivotal role in shaping the trajectory of Swedish lighting design during the 20th century. Their commitment to quality craftsmanship and avant-garde design principles set them apart as pioneers in the industry and are the reason the company has remained iconic within Swedish mid-century lighting to this day.
Model “E1168” is built around a slender brass stem rising from a compact, circular base, creating a clear vertical axis that gives the piece a light presence. Brass became a preferred choice during this period, not only for its durability but also for the warmth it lends to simple forms. The minimal structure allows the eye to move effortlessly upward toward the shade, which becomes the defining feature of the design. The fabric shade introduces a gentle decorative element through its softly scalloped edge, a subtle addition from the otherwise restrained silhouette. This detail adds a sense of softness, while also shaping the light into a warm, diffused glow. The contrast between the smooth, reflective brass and the textured shade of creates a quiet interplay of materials. Despite its simplicity, the proportions are carefully judged, ensuring that all elements work together.
This table lamp’s presence is an excellent way to elevate the ambience of a room, creating an inviting and stylish atmosphere. The piece is particularly adaptable, capable of blending into a range of interiors while still offering a refined point of interest. It reflects a side of Scandinavian design that prioritises atmosphere and usability, where even the most modest objects are shaped with intention and care.
