Description
This model “B8453” table lamp is an outstanding example of Swedish design from the 1930s, produced by Boréns, one of Sweden’s leading lighting manufacturers of the period. It embodies the graceful balance between modernism’s streamlined aesthetic and the warmth of natural materials that defined Swedish design at the time.
Swedish lighting designers were masters of creating pieces with great textural variety as this table lamp shows. Like many of the decade’s designs, this lamp masterfully pairs materials. The mix of brass and wood creates an interesting visual effect, where the elegant and traditional look of the wood meets the modern aesthetic of the bright, polished brass. The lampshade “crowns” the lamp beautifully; at the same time the brass rim and cap serve as neat visual points of interest. It has an elegant pressed dome shape that provides plenty of surface to show off the distinct green coloured lacquer. Meanwhile, the white inside of the reflector enhances its functionality. The proportions of the piece are carefully considered, giving it an elegant profile that feels both minimal and sophisticated. Chromatically, this table lamp transmits a charming, organic feel, thanks to the complementing shades of brown and forest green, while the honey bronze metal maintains its sophistication. The two bulbs provide warm light, which brings a soft ambience, even further highlighting the beauty of the design.
Created by master craftsmen and characterised by clean lines and intuitive functionality, this lamp is truly timeless. Perfect for desks, side tables, or living spaces, it offers an authentic glimpse into the golden age of Scandinavian lighting design. Its refined details and timeless appeal ensure it remains as relevant today as it was nearly a century ago.
