Bruno Gecchelin, 'Tegola' floor lamp for Skipper, Italy, 1970

$ 1,875
  • Description
    Bruno Gecchelin was born in Milan in 1939.

    In 1962, he conducted research and development on gas stoves and compact refrigerators for Indesit and began designing furniture for Gruppo Industriale Busnelli. During the same period, he joined the design department at Olivetti in Ivrea—led by Ettore Sottsass Jr. and based in Milan—where he spent approximately fifteen years designing electronic machines and terminals, as well as office furniture.

    In 1976, he became an independent professional; after graduating in Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Milan, he opened his own studio and began collaborating with numerous companies, expanding his product design work into diverse fields.

    He designed a series of car accessories for the Fiat Panda, upholstered furniture and seating for Poltrona Frau, and office furnishings for Ycami. With Fratelli Guzzini, he created a complete line of thermoplastic kitchen tools and housewares, and expanded the range of premium gift items under the Rede Guzzini brand.

    He also focused on bathroom design, creating accessories and fixtures made of thermosetting materials for Metaform. He designed an integrated, modular system tailored to the Japanese market for Matsushita’s bathroom division. Additionally, he created various lines of air-conditioning units for Aermec and Kelvin Italy.

    Throughout his career, his passion for technology led him to specialize in lighting design, a field in which he also managed the technical lighting specifications. Over more than forty years of activity, he designed over a hundred lamps, ranging from decorative and office models to technical products for commercial, museum, and urban lighting. Key companies he has collaborated with include O-Luce, Skipper, Arteluce-Flos, Antonangeli, Venini, Matsushita, Tronconi, iGuzzini Illuminazione, Ivela, Raat, and Reggiani Illuminazione.

    He has received several international awards, including the BIO Ljubljana, the iF Product Design Award in Hannover, and three Compasso d'Oro awards: the first in 1989 for the Shuttle spotlight series produced by iGuzzini Illuminazione, the second in 1991 for the AGH 171 New heat pump produced by Aermec-Riello, and the third in 2004 for the Latina citrus juicer by Fratelli Guzzini.

    In addition to his design work, he has taught at the IED (Istituto Europeo di Design) in Milan, the Politecnico di Milano, and the Brera Academy in Milan. Since 1996, he has also dedicated himself to painting and graphic works on canvas.

    He lives and works in Milan with his children.
