Czech Art Deco Starburst Chandelier, Circa 1930, Distributed by C.J. Weinstein

A dramatic, sculptural starburst chandelier, its geometric metal frame radiating outward in every direction with dozens of long, faceted crystal spikes. Each spike is cast with a dense, frost-etched surface pattern — feathery, ice-like striations that catch the light and give the piece a shimmering, crystalline texture from every angle — while the spike tips are left polished and clear, sharpening the silhouette against the softer, frosted body of each point. At the core, a compact geometric armature holds the arrangement together, its faceted panels also fitted with matching frosted glass inserts so the fixture glows from within when lit.
The chandelier is suspended from an ornate cast ceiling canopy with a classical acanthus-leaf border, on its original length of link chain, giving the piece a formal, finished presentation from ceiling to star. This model is a documented Art Deco design: a closely related example, described as Czech work of 1930 distributed by C.J. Weinstein, appears as lot 76 in the Aguttes auction Arts Décoratifs du XXème Siècle (Drouot-Richelieu, Paris, November 30, 2009, expert Arnaud Plaisance), catalogued as an "important centre light in transparent white crystal with a polyhedral gilt-finished, moulded, cut and frosted frame," circa 1931, H 90 cm x Diam 62 cm, with a further example illustrated in Alastair Duncan's Art Deco Américain (Éditions du Regard, Paris), p. 69. The present example is finished in silvered/nickel metal rather than the gilt frame of the catalogued lot — a variant finish offered on the same design — but corresponds closely in construction, scale, and glasswork.
Equal parts sculpture and light source, this is a genuine statement fixture — the kind of piece that reads as abstract art as much as illumination, equally at home in a grand entry, stairwell, or double-height living space where it can be seen in the round.
