Description
This eccentric mid-century floor lamp combines a classical shape reimagined with carefully thought out proportions and Danish craftsmanship. The tube’s geometric construction defines this model, making it a one-of-a-kind model.
Being a mid-century Danish-made design, this floor lamp features numerous functional elements, including an adjustable head secured by a brass ball joint, adjustable neck and a tapered empire lampshade. Therefore, the light this lamp provides is highly customizable in its direction. The base is circular and is made of brass, which was the preferred material for the most famous floor lamps of the era as it is enduring and - as this lamp shows - develops a beautiful patina over time. The brass body has an appealing, patinated golden colour that stands out even more thanks to the curve. The tapered empire lampshade is lacquered white and has decorative holes punched into it that creates a cosy effect when the lamp is lit. While the lampshade is unique on its own, the true aesthetic feature is the brass tube and its curve. The shape resembles a hook on the bottom with a curve that doesn’t end at the base but continues on to create an almost floating effect.
In line with the Functionalist trend of the time, the designer abandoned ornamentation in favour of form. Nonetheless, the warmth and beauty inherent in Danish design is maintained, as well as high-quality craftsmanship.
