Description
These authentic French Art Deco sconces feature molded frosted glass shades in a dramatic stylized fan motif, rising from a tapered base and articulated with sharp, angular ridges typical of Degué’s work circa 1930. The glass is signed “Degué France” along the lower edge, confirming origin and period production.
The original metal frames have been finished in a bright nickel tone that emphasizes the linear, architectural character of the design, echoing skyscraper silhouettes and the glamour of late 1920s–1930s Parisian interiors. When lit, the satin glass produces a soft, even glow that highlights the sculpted planes while preventing glare, making the pair suitable for both ambient and decorative lighting.
Degué was the trading name of French glassmaker David Guéron, who established his glassworks in Compiègne and a showroom on boulevard Malesherbes in Paris in the 1920s, producing some of the most distinctive Art Deco lighting of the interwar period. His workshop specialized in thick molded and pressed glass with strong geometric relief and stylized floral motifs, often paired with high‑quality nickel-plated bronze mounts for chandeliers, pendants and sconces. Today Degué pieces are sought after for their sculptural forms, crisp detailing and authentic period craftsmanship, making original examples like this signed pair an important addition to serious Art Deco interiors and collections.
