Description
It was in the 1960s and 70s that Fog & Mørup really emerged as a significant force in lighting design, a period that initiated the most creatively and commercially successful era in the company’s history. It was also a period defined by leading Danish designers’ sleek and innovative designs that became the trademark style of Fog & Mørup and propelled the company into the forefront of Danish modern lighting.
These lamps have an eye-catching shape, with the edges just as soft as the light they diffuse. The clean cylindrical form reflects the era’s focus on simplicity and understated beauty, key characteristics of Danish design. Thanks to the concealed ceiling holders, the lamps are flush mounted without any exposed parts other than the opal glass shades. Opal glass was a popular material for lighting fixtures in the mid-century era, due in part to its ability to soften light. As these ceiling lamps demonstrate, it was also prized for its lustrous, opaque finish, which gives it a sophisticated and refined look. A wonderful thing about these flush mounts—besides their stylish look—is that they are an excellent option for making interiors appear more spacious due to their design. One of the hallmarks of Nordic lighting manufacture is its seamless blend into architecture and interior decor. Light fixtures like this model are made to complement their surroundings while making a distinct visual statement.
The warm elegance coupled with the “form follows function” ethos inherent in Danish design is maintained, as well as an emphasis on high-quality craftsmanship. This set of sleek lamps would make a timeless addition to any interior.
