Description
Pair of large antique gilt bronze wall lights after François Rémond
French, 19th Century
Height 103cm, width 47cm, depth 27cm
Inspired by the artistry of François Rémond (1747–1812), one of the foremost bronze craftsmen of King Louis XVI’s era, this exceptional pair of wall lights reflects the grandeur of 18th century French design.
At the top, a finely sculpted tied ribbon, cantered by a circular mount, serves as an elegant focal point. Flowing drapery leads the eye downward to the most striking section, where dark metal is richly embellished with ornate ormolu accents. Delicately detailed floral swags are interspersed with sculpted female busts, adding an element of refinement and sophistication.
Extending gracefully from the central structure, four scrolling arms, adorned with intricate acanthus leaves, support decorative bobeches and candle cups. Completing the composition, a luxurious ormolu arrangement of cascading leaves and tassels enhances the piece’s opulent appeal.
With their impressive scale and lavish ornamentation, this matching pair makes a stunning statement. -
