Description
Minimal in form from concept to design, this historical lamp emerged from a traditional Italian craftsmanship practice. Using modern, artisanal materials for the design the designers applied a modern aesthetic to the design and construction of this model.
Many Italian designers’ later works developed from a tension between usability and style, resulting in outstanding pieces like this table lamp. Like Albini, Franca Helg and Antonio Piva were also celebrated architects working on important architectural projects in Italy. Helg and Albini were even awarded the Compasso d'Oro in 1964. Antonio Piva designed, among other things, numerous museums in Italy and abroad. He worked on many designs with Franca Helg and Franco Albini at the Albini-Helg-Piva Studio. This large model has a truly impressive designer trio behind it, which is clearly visible in its every detail. The architectural precision and trademark Italian elegance can be traced throughout the chromed metal body with clean rectangular elements. Essentially, the lamp is composed of a T-shaped base and a curved neck supporting a frosted glass shade. The round shape of the shade counterbalances the frame’s lines beautifully, injecting modern architecture into the design.
The lighting company, Sirrah, was founded in Imola in 1968. The company is named after a star in the Andromeda constellation. Their first lamps of the company were a design by the Albini-Helg-Piva trio. Industrial production began while maintaining the artisan characteristics of the products unaltered: refinement and extreme attention to detail.
