Description
With a legacy spanning over seven decades, Hans-Agne Jakobsson has redefined modern design by seamlessly blending form and function. Most active between the 1950s and '70s—in the golden age of Scandinavian design— Jakobsson is best remembered for his timeless lighting fixtures.
This “7373” lamp is characteristic of the post-war modernism movement which emphasized functional beauty. During this time, Swedish designers sought to create accessible, high-quality pieces that were both practical and visually pleasing. The fluted wood stem of this lamp adds unique texture, while its grooves create depth. The wood showcases a soft, natural finish, highlighting its organic look. Hans-Agne Jakobsson focused on craftsmanship, functionality, and aesthetics while combining durable, classic materials and is evident in this design. In contrast to the wooden stem, the brass elements provide a polished refinement. The warm glow of brass complements the earthy tones of the wood, creating a harmonious balance between materials. The round shape of the base further underscores the lamp's minimalist elegance, on par with the Swedish design principles of clean lines and simplicity. The circular shade even further balances the base, finishing off the look.
This floor lamp utilises high quality materials to create a timeless piece that captures the essence of 20th-century Scandinavian design. This “7373” model was created at the famed Markaryd workshop in Sweden where Jakobsson crafted most of his era-defining creations.
