Description
The Danes call it Hygge, the Swedes Lagom, and the Norwegians, Friluftsliv. When it comes to Scandinavian interiors, these expressions mean clear design that can be enjoyed without being distracted by too many details. This floor lamp attributed to the iconic designer, Hans Bergström showcases a modernist approach based on quality and architectural precision.
This stylish floor lamp displays delightfully distinctive and immediately recognisable details, with an unmistakable mid-century look. From the clean lines and the slender structure to the leather wrapped stem, this model is timeless. Brass, the ultimate medium of the 20th century, and most popular among lighting designers is both durable and visually pleasing. Over time the brass will develop a unique patina further adding charm. Swedish lighting manufacturers were masters of creating works with great textural variety as this floor lamp shows; the pairing of brass and leather is a visual delight. The twisted dark brown leather wraps around the stem to the very base of the lamp with its textured look contrasting beautifully against the smooth brass. The piece is grounded by the round base, which balances the shape of the white drum shade, while at the same time not taking attention away from the body.
This floor lamp has an essentially Scandinavian feel, with a combination of interesting materials and masterful design. The allure of this piece is anchored in the warm, inviting glow of the lamp that will create a cosy ambiance in any space.
