J.L. Lobmeyr Hans Harold Rath Metropolitan Opera Chandelier, Austria
Offered for sale is an Austrian "Metropolitan Opera" chandelier manufactured by J.L. Lobmeyr and design by Hans Harold Rath. The chandelier was originally designed for the grand opening of the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center in New York City in September of 1966. It is said that one of the highlights of the opening night was when the chandelier rose towards the ceiling. The chandelier is Sputnik in style and reflects the modern aesthetic of the 1960s.
It has arms that extend to illuminate 18 bulbs. It is hard-wired for American electrical and includes the canopy. This very beautiful chandelier is a later production by Lobmeyr purchased at Moss Lighting in NYC. - More Information
