Description
This model “6893” table lamp was made by Swedish designer and sculptor, Harald Notini. He was the artistic leader at Böhlmarks and is represented at the “Nationalmuseum” in Stockholm. Between the 1920s and 1950s, Böhlmarks was a significant player in the Swedish design movement. Harald Notini, after becoming creative director in 1916, drove the company forward, producing what were considered pioneering and distinctive luminaires for the time
Like most light fixtures of the period, the design of this table lamp assumes a simpler look, Notini prized the marriage of form and function, with a poise that is hard to force or imitate. The construction is straightforward through the use of metal. The piece is crafted from patinated brass, a quintessentially mid-century modern material. The lamp is grounded by the round base, and flows upwards in a sleek, elegant manner towards the pleated shade, and ending in a sharp finial. Scandinavian mid-century lighting pieces like this lamp are famous for multiple reasons. On one hand, the commitment to quality craftsmanship ensures durability, a hallmark that endears for generations. On the other hand, the timeless allure lies in the ability to evoke a sense of nostalgia while remaining relevant in today's design landscape. This "6893" model effortlessly encapsulates these principles. When turned on, the light casts a warm and inviting glow, creating a timeless and comforting ambience.
Table lamps such as these are classic examples of how simplicity, combined with thoughtful craftsmanship, can result in items that transcend their utilitarian purpose, becoming works of art in their own right. Today we consider the mid-20th century a golden age for Swedish design and craftsmanship. During these decades, some of the country's most significant luminaires were designed and produced at Böhlmarks.
