Description
An important and sizable ceiling lamp by renowned Finnish designer Heikki Turunen and manufactured by Orno. Made of brass and milk glass, this 8-arm chandelier has cubic modernistic design with globe like milk glass shades. The lamp is from a church in Finland and is approximately 2,5 meters high, so it will suit best for foyers or high living spaces, lobbies or other public spaces with high ceilings. The model is 961-802 and was designed and produced in the 1970s. A similar one was used in the entrance to the trade ministry in Helsinki (Archive photo attached). Also please see in pics the picture of this lamp while hanging in the church.
The lamp is in very good original condition and not missing any pieces. Due to size and weight, this lamp can only be shipped after dismantling, which fortunately due to it's brilliant design, is quite easy to do and reassemble. Of course, the lamp can also be shortened at an extra charge if needed.
The lamp is stamped and in perfect working condition.
Heikki Turunen (1937-) was a Finnish lighting designer who began his career at Stockmann-Orno’s design office as an assistant to head designer Lisa Johansson-Pape. Soon, he had the opportunity to create his own lighting designs, leading to a 38-year tenure as the chief designer at Stockmann-Orno and work at Thorn Lighting Oy, where he focused on product development and visual branding. His designs, known for harmoniously combining light, color, and form while considering technical lighting aspects, include notable models like Reflex, Efekti, and the iconic La Boheme table lamp. Turunen's contributions have significantly impacted Finnish design, inspiring new generations of designers with his innovative solutions. His work gained international recognition in 1993 when his Avanti lamp was selected for the Élysée Palace, marking a significant acknowledgment of Finnish design and the quality of Turunen's work.
Orno was one of the leading lamp manufacturers in Finland during the middle of the 20th century. Along with companies like Taito Oy, Idman and Itsu they defined what Finnish design lamps would become. Orno made high quality lamps and produced lamps for major projects. -
