Glazed Table Lamp by Helle Allpass for Trørød, Denmark ca 1960s

Helle Allpass was part of the generation of Danish ceramic designers active during the 1950s and 1960s, a period that marked the height of Scandinavian modern design. Originally trained as an architect, she decided to work in pottery, like her father and grandfather. Allpass started her own workshop north of Copenhagen, where she made stoneware crafts, many of which were large hand thrown pieces.

Helle Allpass embraced the era’s focus on honest materials, balanced proportions, and expressive surfaces. All of these characteristics are clearly visible in this table lamp for Trørød ceramics. Allpass’ work combined restrained silhouettes with richly layered finishes that highlight the handmade nature of each piece. This glazed lamp features a softly rounded ceramic base with a gently tapering profile. The form is accented by a beautifully nuanced glaze, displaying subtle tonal transitions between deep earthy browns, charcoal hues, and lighter sandy notes near the base. Condition:
In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. The lamp has recently been rewired and reconditioned. The shade is a later replacement.
