Description
This table lamp was designed during the mid-20th century, an era in which Finland saw the birth of many of its most iconic lighting models. It was a period of consistency, excellence, and sophistication design-wise. Itsu, short for Itä-Suomen Sähkö (eng. Eastern Finland Electricity), was a small, lesser known manufacturer that produced characteristic models in small quantities, like this "EV75" lamp.
There is a saying that “Functionalism is a Finnish thing”, and it is hard to argue with that when looking at this table lamp. The design of this model is first and foremost functional, combining practicality and aesthetics. Functionality is without a doubt one of the most important aspects of Finnish design, however, there is also a demand for the highest quality, both in design and materials. Second to function, the "EV75" lamp’s silhouette gives the design a personality that stands out without being loud, which is also an essentially Finnish design virtue. The lamp is constructed from high-quality brass, a material chosen for both its durability and timeless appeal. The lamp’s design focuses on practicality while making a subtle but striking aesthetic statement, perfectly capturing the essence of mid-century modern lighting. The brass finish has developed a natural patina over time, adding to its charm and character. This lamp’s design is a perfect example of how Finnish designers seamlessly integrated industrial materials with organic shapes, creating unique pueces. Despite its understated design, the Model EV75 is highly functional, offering a soft, diffused light that can be easily incorporated into a variety of settings. Its clean, refined profile makes it suitable for both contemporary and vintage-inspired interiors, while its brass construction provides a sense of warmth and sophistication. When the light is on, the brass base glows thanks to the shade’s angle, an effect that makes the lamp stand out even more. The smooth brass surface is only broken by the black switch.
This lamp remains a classic piece of Finnish design, embodying the spirit of the mid-century era while continuing to enhance interiors with its understated yet stylish presence.
