Description
This striking table lamp was designed by Jonas Hidle and produced by Høvik Lys in Norway in the 1970s. The model is one of the rarest models of the designer's iconic 'Skomakers' series for Høvik.
The generously sized lamp is entirely executed in gold brass. The design is marked by its funnel shaped base. The brass shade is in a tapered empire shape and is resting on a circular shade holder.
The lamp is in a good original condition. The brass with a natural patina and some minor marks including light scratches. The brass can be entirely repolished if preferred. Currently with a 220V European plug, standard E26/E27 light bulb fitting.
For more than 100 years, Høvik Lys was Norway's leading manufacturer of lighting. Jonas Hidle, Kjell Munch and Arnulf Bjørnsholt were among the company's renowned designers, and for five decades they left their mark on Norwegian lighting culture. Høvik Lys developed lamps for Oslo City Hall, which was an extensive and difficult task. Most prestigious were the 11 giant chandeliers at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, which were a gift from the Norwegian government. -
