2 Rare European Mid-Century Modern Floor Lamps by the influential Austrian Art Deco / Modernist designer, Karl Hagenauer. The lamps have an innovative, poetic form uniting spare modernism with the graceful movement of forms found in nature. Each lamp with a double, arched stem and a conical shade. 2 Edision sockets per lamp. Priced and Sold as Individual Pieces. Dimensions: H 59.5” x W 27”. (2 shades) x D: 12.5”; Base D: 10.25”

Karl Hagenauer (1898–1956) was a leading Austrian designer in the Art Deco style whose work influenced the modern movements. He enrolled at the Vienna School of Applied Arts at age eleven. There he studied with the famed Josef Hoffmann and Oskar Strnad and created designs for the taste-making Wiener Werkstätte art collective. Hagenauer was responsive to the change in public taste influenced by the popularity of the Vienna Secession. Hagenauer's work was presented at the 1925 Paris Exposition, where he won a bronze and a silver medal. While Hagenauer was the principal designer of everyday objects (and some sculptures), his younger brother Franz specialized in sculpture. The company later also produced lighting and furniture.

Thomas Gargiulo came from a dual background as a Ph.D. in Psychology with extensive training in Art History and Anthropology to form Thomas Gallery in downtown Manhattan in 1997 to balance intellectual with design pursuits.
