Description
Large Moorish style metal and coloured glass lantern
Syrian, 20th Century
Height 152cm, diameter 65cm
This magnificent lantern, crafted in the intricate Moorish style, is a striking example of exceptional craftsmanship.
The top of the lantern features a pierced and painted metal cupola, with several six-sided tubes hanging below. Each tube, constructed from metal, is filled with small, delicate glass panels. These panels are decorated with vibrant red, yellow, green, and blue glass details in three distinct bands. The polychrome glass is embellished with intricate patterns, while the pierced metal tops allow smoke to escape when lit candles are inside.
The base of the lantern showcases tapering glass elements, complemented by additional metal panels, enhancing the overall design.
This lantern, celebrating the elaborate and detailed Moorish style, is superb for adding a touch of elegance to both indoor and outdoor spaces. -
