Description
The designs introduced during the Mid-Century represented many “firsts” in the world. It was during this time when tradition was questioned and new forms were experimented with. Historically, a piece of lighting was a lamp plus shade combination, the great lighting powerhouse Laurel Lamp Company challenged this notion.
The mushroom motif is one that has transcended countless design styles throughout the years. This particular design of Laurel’s, while very well known, is quite hard to find. The design unapologetically embodies the design characteristics of Bill Curry and the mushrooms of his Design Line, but Laurel certainly deserves its own credit for this Mushroom Lamp, as it is enough of a derivation from Curry’s series to stand on its own in design history. This shown lamp is finished in a polished chrome which remains in very good condition considering its age. The hand blown glass shade is also in great condition, the milk-white matte shade emits a soft and elegant light which makes it the lamp perfect for a cozy environment. This lamp has been rewired and retains its original porcelain socket and rotary switch, all wiring is in working order. -
