Lisa Johansson-Papé Ihanne Floor Lamp, Brass White Shade & Black Wrap Orno 1960s
-
Description
A beautiful example in a brass/metal base, original black nylon covered stem, and an acrylic and brass shade.
This `Senator` lamp became very popular in Finland with many different variations of stems, materials and shades. It was used in public buildings as well as private homes. The long reigning president Urho Kekkonen had the table version of this lamp in his home office.
It is also worth mentioning that the light from the lamp shines both ways, up and down, which shows the simple yet brilliant design idea behind this lamp.
Lisa Johansson-Pape (1907-1989) was a Finnish designer best known for her works in lightings. She paid more attention to the function of the lamp firstly, then the design feature secondly. Lisa designed furniture for Stockmann for a number of years, after which she turned her attention to lamps, also at the Stockmann owned company Orno Oy. She won a number of medals for her lighting designs in the Milan Triennials in the 1950s. -
