Description
A beautiful pair of rare floor lamps by Idman from the 1950s. This model is attributed to Maria Lindeman, who was one of the head designers at the leading light manufacturer Idman, along side Paavo Tynell and Mauri Almari. Others attribute this model to Mauri Almari. Either or, both were great designers for Idman.
The floor lamps are quite modernistic with a heavy solid brass leg and a narrowing teak stem that ends with a brass puck and spike. Both stamped Idman. The elecrtic parts and the shades have been renewed with linen / cardboard fabric. The natural toned fabric plays very well with the teak and brass parts of the the lamp. Otherwise, the lamp parts are in original condition and left as is, unpolished as they have beautiful patina.
Maria Lindemann graduated from the design school "Taideteollisuuskeskuskoulu", now known as the Aalto University School of Arts, Design, and Architecture just when the second world ended. In 1953 Lindemann took part in a competition of lighting fixtures, announced by the Idman company, which resulted in a full-time job as an artistic designer. Idman became the leading light manufacturers in Finland that then acquired Taito just around that same time.
Lindeman’s designs varied from modern to classical designs. During the 1950s and 1960s, Lindeman became one of the voices in constructing Finnish modernism, and a participating member in the formulation of the Golden Age of Finnish design. -
