Description
Mid-century modern Italian Murano glass hanging chandelier, entirely handmade in Italy in the 20th century and designed in a striking contemporary Art Deco style with cascading glass elements forming a dramatic icicle composition. This unique chandelier is composed of numerous interchangeable Murano glass drops, each individually worked by hand, creating a sculptural lighting fixture with exceptional depth and brilliance.
The glass elements are executed with a hammered texture, concave on one side and in relief on the other, allowing the light to reflect in multiple directions and producing a lively shimmering effect. Some drops are crystal clear, while others are decorated with silver leaf or gold leaf, and some are frosted, creating a varied and sophisticated combination of tones ranging from bright sparkle to softer diffused whites. The mixture of finishes gives the chandelier a dynamic appearance and a very rich visual presence typical of high-quality Murano production.
The internal structure is made of metal enameled in white so that it visually disappears behind the glass elements, allowing the focus to remain on the sculptural arrangement of the drops. The chandelier is fitted with twenty-four G9 sockets, providing strong and even illumination while maintaining an elegant profile. Slight irregularities in the glass are inherent to the handmade process and confirm the authenticity of the individual Murano craftsmanship.
The overall chandelier measures approximately 50 inches high and 33 inches in diameter, while the glass body alone measures about 38 inches high. The ceiling canopy measures approximately 3 inches high and 6 inches in diameter, making the fixture substantial yet well proportioned for a variety of interiors. This exquisite chandelier is very versatile and can be placed in a dining room, living room, entry hall, or stairwell, and easily complements both modern and traditional décor. Overall in good condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use. -
