Description
This elegant Mid-Century Modernist table lamp, crafted in France circa 1950, is a captivating blend of artistic form and functional design. The lamp’s ceramic body features a gracefully sculpted silhouette rendered in simplified curved forms, adorned with intricately spaced cutout detailing that lends it a sense of lightness and sophistication while adhering and accenting the underlying structure of the lamp. The stunning textural gradient glaze in rich umber tones enhances its organic appeal, transitioning seamlessly from deep earthy hues to softer, lighter shades, creating a dynamic interplay of color and texture that evokes the natural beauty of the peacock’s plumage.
Imbued with a refined yet understated charm, the lamp embodies the hallmarks of mid-century design with its focus on clean lines, artisanal craftsmanship, and innovative use of materials. The thoughtfully executed cutouts not only introduce a sculptural elegance but also allow the soft glow of light to filter through, adding a warm, ambient quality to the surrounding space.
Fitted with a custom gallery shade that beautifully diffuses the light from the top of the lamp, with another bulb concealed within the body that illuminates the piece from within and casts additional ambient light. Whether illuminated or standing as a decorative object, this piece is a testament to the timeless artistry and innovation of mid-century French design, making it an ideal choice for collectors or discerning individuals seeking a distinctive and functional work of art for their home. Newly rewired for American Standards, this lamp accommodates one Edison Base bulb and one candelabra based bulb internally, achieving up to 160 watts of light. In Excellent Vintage Condition.
