Description
This very rare floor lamp was designed by Otto Schulz and produced by his company Boet in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1928. The elegant design is exemplary for the Swedish Grace style with its combination of the architectural and (neo)classical details. The sumptuous lamp foot is made of solid birch wood. Circular, slightly raised base with a dome shaped break and column. The central tube is tapered with a rounded column shape. Top break leading to a brass, height adjustable stem and two light fittings. The design is completed by a decorative finial detail on top of the shade. The shade is a new, custom design in a colorful and uplifiting linen fabric. In Josef Frank’s Baranquilla print, lianas are crafted into a beautiful scenery of lush fruits, flowers and leaves. The print was designed around 1943-45 during Josef Frank’s stay in New York – a place where many of his imaginative designs, with trees of life growing freely, flowers and fruits took form. By delaying the pattern repeat Josef Frank was able to get the design to flow. This gives the feeling of no real direction, and it therefore becomes just as beautiful from any angle. Literature: Boet, Månadsskrift för Hemkultur, Hantverk och Konstindustri, December 1928.
