Description
A refined Paavo Tynell Model 9602 Floor Lamp designed by celebrated Finnish lighting designer Paavo Tynell and produced by Taito Oy, Circa 1950.
Widely known as the “Chinese Hat,” Model 9602 was
designed in 1935 for the Hotel Aulanko remains Tynell’s most recognizable and sought-after lighting designs.
This example features the rounded base with original maker’s stamps located underneath. For the flat-base variation, please refer to our other listing: Pair of “Chinese Hat” floor lamps, model 9602.
The lamp is fitted with a linen shade that complements the elegant silhouette of the design. The brass surface has acquired a rich natural patina over time, enhancing its vintage character.
This floor lamp remains in very good vintage condition, preserving the timeless sophistication associated with Tynell’s work.
“The man who illuminated Finland,” Tynell played a defining role in Scandinavian modern lighting. His fixtures were created for notable interiors including the Finnish Parliament House and the United Nations in New York. His work continues to be admired for its craftsmanship, sophistication, and timeless appeal.
An exceptional example of mid-century Scandinavian design. -
