Description
Pair of rare "Galatea" table lamps with female figures in cast bronze on patinated bronze bases by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, American 1970's (signed “PK LaVerne” on front of one base). The female figures are based on the myth of Pygmalion, a sculptor who creates an ivory alabaster statue representing his ideal woman and then falls in love with her, which he names Galatea; the goddess Venus answers his prayers and brings her to life. The pair have been newly rewired by Lobel Modern with new bronze sockets and silk cords. Lighting fittings have been professionally polished and lacquered.
